The prostate gland is present in males which encompasses the bladder and the urethra. It secretes a liquid that helps the semen in transportation. The prostate gland has more than one function and is highly important in reproduction. A third of the total semen fluid actually includes the portion being produced by the prostate.
When orgasm happens, it is the prostate that makes the semen free from urine when it is drawn out of the body. It pinches the duct to the bladder that constricts it from releasing urine. This important process may become difficult when prostate enlargement takes place.
The problem of an enlarged prostate can easily be managed with beta-sitosterol. It reduces the size of the swollen prostate quickly and safely with no side effects. Some consumers have reported significant changes in their urination schedule; freeing them from the stress of repetitive night time trips to the bathroom.
Beta-sitosterol is a plant sterol, a chemical found in all plant foods that appear to offer a number of health benefits. Even though it naturally occurs in foods, you’d need to eat foods fortified with sterols or use them in supplement form to achieve therapeutic benefit. The amount present in fruits, vegetables and the like is just too small to exert a medicinal effect. Not all purported benefits, however, have strong scientific backing behind them.
Beta-sitosterol has a long history of use in Europe for treating an enlarged prostate. Beta-sitosterol appears to work by blocking the production of dihydrotestosterone, which triggers the growth of prostate cells.
Beta-sitosterol can also reduce the growth and spread of prostate cancer cells and induced apoptosis, the process where cancer cells self-destruct. These studies involved animals or isolated prostate cancer cells, however, and do not firmly establish the therapeutic benefit in humans.
