Many may have heard about pheromones and what it does to people exposed to it. One type of pheromone called Androstadienone found in men is said to have that specific effect in women’s cognitive activities.
It is said to be transmitted from testosterone which is the sex hormone of men and is said to be the only pheromone that stimulates the vomeronasal organ of women. Being exposed to the said substance has also been found to have effects on both the attention and social cognitive function of the brain.
Studies say that people have peculiar sets of genes, wherein there is one specific gene that determines whether the smell of pheromones is gratifying, odorous, or absent. They say that when the brain finds this hormone to be pleasurable, it triggers the feeling of certain emotions leading to the person having increased sexual attraction towards the person releasing the scent.
Several studies have been done before and recently to find out how pheromones work. The purpose of these researches is to find out how women react to being exposed to the hormone with regards to their being sensitive and perceptive.
According to these studies, women who are either menstruating or not can produce and ingest estrogen and progesterone, which are substances that helps women determine whether androstadienone is present or not. These studies have stated that women who are ovulating are more responsive to the hormone compared to those who are not.
Ovulating women who have been exposed to the specific pheromone have shown more amorous acts like being touchy, kissing, hugging, and being flirtatious. They say that these psychological responses may also be an indication that women are ready to reproduce.
Because of these findings, several companies have introduced to the public; products which would help them appear more attractive to the opposite sex. Most of these are in the forms of sprays or perfumes and contains pheromones.
These products which may be used by both men and women will help the users socialize better and allow the opposite sex who are exposed to the scent act more amorous towards the user. Although it may sound odd, several studies have proven that pheromone sprays do work.
Although there are no known life-threatening side effects from androstadienone- containing products, doctors say that people who plan on trying the product should still consider consulting their physicians. They say that too much exposure to the hormone may cause negative interactions from other people. Although it is unclear, some studies also say that using too much of pheromone sprays could lead to the development of hormonal imbalances.
